Your way through ...

Because producing online training content (e.g. in the form of a full type training based on e-learning) would be a very expensive task, you are required to study on your own ... but don’t fear, Viggen.training provides:
  + The AJS37 Viggen Manual RC2.1
  + Skill levels
  + Exam preparation courses
  + ATPL e-Learning courses
  + References to learning material
  + Links to video support
  + Other useful sources

AJS37 Viggen Manual RC2.1

The basis for the theoretical knowledge training is Heatblur’s AJS37 manual in version RC2.1, which was upgraded from version RC2 to version RC2.1 by operators of this project. This step took considerable amount of time, and was done in accordance with Heatblur. RC2.1 contains all content of RC2, but in RC2.1 hundreds of smaller issues & errors (either reported by the community or other persons participating the project) have been eliminated.
With DCS.openbeta update 2.9, the RC2.1 is officially included in the AJS37 module. Also, you can access the document anytime here.
RC2.1 can also be accessed (page per page to mark the learning progress) in the Assessment Center, for which a free registration is required.
If you are going to start over with the Viggen from scratch in a professional and serious manner, you should plan to spend an average of about 250 hours for working through it.

Skill levels

The theoretical knowledge for a complex aircraft is not easy to learn. Experience has shown that DCS players apply different approaches in learning the aircraft, and thus we decided to introduce 2 different skill levels for learning the theoretical knowledge:
Skill level Basic:
  - Is basic knowledge about the aicraft, its systems and behavior, and procedures
  - It is easy to learn
  - It is limited in extent
  - It is designed for the more casual players, that don't have much time or the motivation to dig in deep
Skill level Extended:
  - Is extended knowledge about the aicraft, its systems and behavior, and procedures
  - It is more effort to learn
  - It is not limited in extent
  - It is designed for the study-type players, that have time and motivation to dig in deeper

Exam preparation courses

The "Exam preparation courses" contain information about the style of exam questions, and the required knowledge level (basic or extended). Also, you will find the relevant pages of RC2.1 to be studied for a certain exam.
To attend such a course, a registration at the Assessment Center is required (free).
As per October 2025, "Exam preparation courses" are available for the following chapters:
  + 01-Introduction (Skill levels Basic & Extended)
+ 02-Cockpit overview (Skill levels Basic & Extended)
+ 03-General Design & Systems Overview (Block 1, Skill levels Basic & Extended)
+ 06-Aerodynamic properties (Skill level Extended)
  + 10-Limitations (Skill level Extended)

ATPL e-Learning courses

In order to have maximum support, ATPL training content can be used to increase your knowledge about aircraft in general.
This training content is used in several aviation training organisations all over the globe.
Topics relating to systems of the AJS37 are made available in the Assessment Center.
"ATPL e-Learning courses" require registration at the Assessment Center and can be purchased in the "Shop" within the Assessment Center.
At the initial stage of the project, "ATPL e-Learning courses" are available for the following chapters:
  + 022 INSTRUMENTS / 02 MEASUREMENT OF AIR-DATA PARAMETERS (Part 1)
  + 022 INSTRUMENTS / 02 MEASUREMENT OF AIR-DATA PARAMETERS (Part 2)
  + 022 INSTRUMENTS / 02 MEASUREMENT OF AIR-DATA PARAMETERS (Part 3)
  + 022 INSTRUMENTS / 03 MAGNETISM
  + 022 INSTRUMENTS / 04 GYRO
  + 022 INSTRUMENTS / 05 INS
  + 061 GENERAL NAVIGATION / 01 BASIC NAVIGATION

Learning material

The following additional learning material is highly suggested:
GUIDE AJS 37 VIGGEN (by Chuck)
Well prepared training manual for the AJS37 Viggen.
The style is descriptive, illustrative and highly procedure oriented.
If you start with the Viggen from scratch, you should plan to spend an average of 125 hours working through it.
Since the document handles all aspects of the Viggen, the knowledge level ranges from Basic to Extended, and it requires the student to apply theoretical knowledge in many procedures.

Video support
